C-17 Part Falls Off Plane, Hits SA House

The tail cone of a Boeing C-17 Globemaster, a military aircraft, fell into a neighborhood on San Antonio's northwest side this afternoon, hitting a house, 1200 WOAI news reports.

"I'm not good at geometry, so we thought it was coming towards us, so we kind of shuttered in fear as it was falling," said Robert Coultress, who lives in the 6500 block of Spring Hurst, off Babcock and Dezavala.

  "We saw it hit."

The tail cone fell onto a home in the area.

"We saw the airplane, and then we saw something detach from the airplane, and start free falling," he said.

The C-17 Globemaster has been in the Air Force inventory since the 1980s.  It is generally used as a cargo and transport plane.  It is believed the plane was being repaired at the Boeing San Antonio facility.

  Nobody was hurt.
