Three federal agents are recovering in the hospital after a helicopter crash in deep south Texas.
The chopper made an emergency landing near Falfurrias, just after eight this morning.
"Two U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air Interdiction Agents and one U.S. Border Patrol Agent were injured," according to a statement released this afternoon by the Department of Homeland Security
"All three of the injured CBP personnel were taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.”
The border patrol maintains a highway checkpoint south of town, about an hour's drive north of Texas-Mexico border. The ranch lands south of Falfurrias are busy human smuggling routes as guides attempt to circumvent the checkpoint.
