The unemployment rate in the eight county San Antonio metro area has fallen to its lowest level since 2008, as it dropped to 5.8% in October, 1200 WOAI news reports.
That’s down from 6.1% in September, and 5.9% in October of 2012.
Workforce Solutions Alamo Director Patrick Newman says multiple industries are showing strong growth, including construction, manufacturing, education, health services, and government.
The only industry to report job losses in the period was financial activities. It has been hit by consolidations in the local banking industry.
San Antonio continues to do better than the state as a whole, due largely to the growth of the Eagle Ford oil fields, and its spin off industries. The statewide unemployment rate, though, fell to six percent...more than a full percentage point below the national jobless figure.
