San Antonio Man Arrested in Brutal Colorado Rape

A San Antonio man has been arrested in  connection with the brutal kidnapping, rape, and attempted murder of a 16 year old girl in Denver in 1997, the FBI tells 1200 WOAI news.

Ray A. Ojeda, 43, who lives in the 4200 block of Northwest Loop 410, was arrested without incident by San Antonio Police.

A warrant indicates that Ojeda is facing charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, and sexual assault.  He is held without bond in the Bexar County Jail awaiting extradition.

FBI agents say Ojeda has a long arrest record, and was in fact identified by his Texas probation officer.

The affidavit says in June of 1997, Ojeda kidnapped the girl at gunpoint as she walked down a Denver street.

He ordered the girl at gunpoint to get into his pickup, he took her do a riverbank and violently raped her.

He then shot the girl in the head, and when she tried to crawl for help he dragged her back into the river and threw stones at her.

The case had gone cold until a Denver Police cold case unit got a DNA match for Ojeda, who was in the system as a felon in Texas.

The case was also investigated by detectives from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

The FBI is looking for any information on any crimes Ojeda may have committed in San Antonio.  If anybody has any information, they are asked to call the FBI at 210-225-6741.
